Attack On Titan !!! 進撃の巨人 !!!
I binged all of AOT in a week, Oh my god. I'm a bit disappointed in myself that it took me so long to get to, but once I started I literally didn't stop watching it until I was done. Also, why does Hulu not have the last two episodes... whatever. I thought seasons 1 & 2 were a bit boring, except for the whole titans in the walls thing. Season 3 was where the lore definetely started to pick up, and I found that much more engaging. And of course, the infamous tone-shift to season 4... that shit gave me whiplash. I was talking to a friend abotu it and he said he didn't like how emo Eren was, but compared to his boring shonen protag thing from the first 3 seasons, it was a relief to me. I think AOT's biggest strengths are the settings, the titan designs, and the charcter work. I think the worldbuilding and plot lines were a bit shaky, a lot of the time it felt like the titan lore and abilities were being made up as the series went on, which I mean duh, fair, but it was definetly more palpable than I would have liked. I'm going to be downloading a bunch of AOT rewrite fancfictions for my next trip for sure (Alongside some Hange fics uhhhhhhhh). Anyways, I was absolutely obsessed with the character work. I think the way all of the characters were written was more or less flawless, and they felt incredibly realistic. Not to get too tumblr feminist or anything, but the female characters were absolutely the shining point of the series. Annie, Historia, Ymir (the gay one), Yelena, Lady Azumabito, Peak I mean Pieck, and of course Hange Zoe herself. Sorry Mikasa I don't like you very much. And poor Ymir (founder)..... They screwed her so bad by making her whole suffering tied to the guy she was raped by and stockholmed syndromed into loving, like if you want to do the whole "power of love" bullshit thingy, make it towards her 3 daughters or something. Like how even though they're rape babies, they deserve life or whatever, you could explore some interesting narratives about original sin, which would connect much better to the overall narrative of the series. Maybe it was too pro-life for audiences. I cried harder than I have cried in a very long time during Hange's last stand. That bitch was on fire LITERALLY. Here are some of my favorite screenshots I took while I rewatched the scene for exposure therapy: 06.17.2024
(Prospective) Summer Reading List
I made this around a week ago/when summer actually started, and I'm reposting it to remind myself to actually read a damn book !!! I don't actually expect to read all of these, but they make a very nice looking pile next to my bed. In case the photos' resolution isn't great, here's the list of titles: -Bílá nemoc {Karel Čapek} -Největší z Pierotů {Karel Čapek} ^I want to finish these books before I go to the Czech Republic this summer to supplement for my horrible reading skills in Czech. Plus, apparently this guy is popular, or something. (I'm joking, I used to listen to audiobooks of his stuff when I was younger) -The Chrysanthemum and the Sword {Ruth Benedict} This one I want to finish befre I go to Japan this summer. Get hyped. -Doctor Zhivago {Boris Pasternak} -Brave New World {Aldous Huxley} I started reading this for AP Lang this year, but then we were assigned In Cold Blood (booooo) and I had to give it up -The Stranger {Albert Camus} Birthday present from my most annoying friend. Thanks Sasha. -Paradise Lost {John Milton} For AP Lit!!! -The Handmaid's Tale {Margaret Atwood} -Obelists at Sea {C. Daly King , Martin Edwards} -A Wrinkle in Time {Madeleine L'Engle} Reread (Childhood Fav) -Metamorphosis and Other Stories {Franz Kafka} Also Reread -A Little Life {Hanya Yanagihara} Not a complete reread, I started last summer but I got bored like a third or so through. |
